Hello, Tom here. Man of many leagues. In an effort to spice this one up, I will be unveiling #TomsPicksofTheWeek weekly (go figure). I will offer an explanation below my choices, but the meat and potatoes is who wins and who doesn’t. Without further ado, I present you with the first installment.
Schwab’s good luck will continue through the weekend as Tyler (team name changed to Charles Schwab Series 7) rides the coat tails of Steven’s successful series 7 test to run through Xavi’s, ruining his triumphant return to the league.
The way I see this one, Tyler has two stud running backs and a quarterback with a much better track record as of late. Xavi is employing some deep threat wide outs (who can be dangerous in standard scoring), but I don’t see both working out.
Colin, the village noob, will put together a powerful performance but it will not be enough to take down Weston as I predict post-hype sleeper Ameer Abdullah becomes the X factor in this one.
Don’t get me wrong here, it’s gonna be hard to count Colin out with a tandem at wide receiver like the one he has. Julio and Brandon Marshall could prove to be the most dangerous duo in our league, but Cam’s matchup isn’t so hot and therefore I feel the same about Jonathon Stewart. He is starting the Raiders D in what seems to be a desperate ploy to stop Drew Brees, who Weston owns and is starting. I think that won’t go so well. Did I mention the post-hype sleeper?
Brendan vs Tj, a matchup of the perennially mediocre, debuts a Brendan lineup one pick away from greatness. Does he know something we don’t about Manny Sanders? Either way Tj’s Eagles and Eagles alum will go down swinging.
Brenda (not a typo) drafted better than he ever has this year. He really outkicked his coverage up until the aforementioned Manny Sanders pick. I remember there being a lot left out there, and lo behold, he’s starting him. But really, that’s my only complaint and it’s not even a big one. Maybe he’ll run into some trouble with Alshon’s injury woes down the line. Lets’s hope. TJ can pull it off with solid Eagles play but we all know how that goes.
Schwab luck only works once and as Herzog must wait on Josh Gordon, he must too wait on his first win of the season. Andrew will start the year off right in a projection based upset.
No running back has more tuddys than Hill since he’s entered the league. The problem is he gets 2 or 3 versus subpar defenses. I predict the Jets keep him out, Keenan Allen has trouble finding the end zone and of course Jared Cook pales in comparison to Gronk. Andrew has the big man, Deangelo Williams (LeVeon Bell to return), a great defensive choice and a good quarterback.
Brad W will attempt to take down Carey while flaunting a name that tries to besmirch the defending champ (Crook’s Trophy Shop). It will be close. So close we’ll hear them talking about how they should have started such and such. Carey survives, while Mathews is still alive, for win number one.
Hate Jason Witten as your only tight end, Brad. Although Dak may like to lean on someone as reliable as him, I think there were/are better options to begin your season with. Obvious advantage to Carey who has Fleener against a Raiders defense that gave it up like it was prom night to the tight end position last year. Baldwin will falter and even though Palmer outperforms Jameis – Carey sneaks on by like a Crooke in the night.
The Matchup of the Week is, of course, myself and Brad L (Hitler). This rematch brings up a lot of feelings for the commissioner. He doesn’t like to think about last year’s Yoffs and he won’t like to think about week one this year either as I gallivant down victory lane once again.
The Matchup of the Week will be the game that has the most on the line, be it a rematch or be it a Triple Dipper at Chili’s. This week it’s the former. Brad and I squared off in the first round of the playoffs last year and I started David Johnson. If you followed fantasy football, you know how that one ended. The only way I see this ending poorly for me is if the Tyrod-Watkins connection goes bananas. All we get this Thursday is a kickers duel, unless I go back on my choice of sitting DT for DeSean Jackson (yup).
In future editions, I will tally the accuracy of my predictions. For now, we will all just have to wait and see. Either way, it’s gonna be a blood bath, folks.
