Hey immediate fam, below are my best and worst value picks of our 2018 Immediate Family Dynasty League startup draft. On deck for this article we look at Brad Lopes, Tyler Lopes, Tom Hillier, Steven Herzog, and Xavier De La Piedra. Because of the length I will release the rest of you schmucks next week. Enjoy!
THE REICH – BRADLEY LOPES
BEST VALUE – The dictator went running back early and often attempting to blitzkrieg the league with the likes of David Johnson, Melvin Gordon, and Devonta Freeman. While it would have been easy to select one of them, I think Doug Baldwin at 5.07 was not only a value pick, but also gave Hitler the stability at Wide Receiver while his top running backs can carry the way. With the departures of Jimmy Graham, Paul Richardson, and others in Seattle, 217 targets are up for grabs. Expect Russell Wilson to look to his trusty #1 Wide Receiver to fill the void. The league will have to hope that Brad’s post-season meltdowns continue to mirror the collapse of Nazi Germany. (Honorable Mention – Jordan Wilkins 21.07)
WORST VALUE– Devontae Booker, anyone? More like Devontae Booger! The Denver Broncos used an early 3rd round pick to select Royce Freeman who looks to lead the charge after Booker (and his lowly 3.8 ypc) failed to make any sort of an impression in his rookie campaign.
DARKHORSEYOFFS – TYLER LOPES
BEST VALUE – Tyler, didn’t you go to school for construction management? Its hard to believe because your roster construction sucks!!! All jokes aside, I think Marlon Mack as the last pick of the 7th round could turn out to be a value. Tyler’s team is desperate for running back depth and I think Marlon Mack has an opportunity to take a lead role for the Colts. Then again, Nyheim Hines, Jordan Wilkins, or all of the above could be mixed in and this pick could be a bust. (Honorable mention- Evan Engram 6.02)
WORST VALUE – Pretty sure Tyler momentarily forgot we were doing a ppr-dynasty league when he drafted Marshawn Lynch at 8.02. Tyler took Lynch ahead of the following running backs: Deon Lewis, C.J. Anderson, Tevin Coleman, Chris Thompson, Theo Riddick, Rex Burkehead, and many others that make you scratch your head. Lynch doesn’t catch passes, is maybe a year away from another retirement, and has other backs to compete with for touches.
THE TOM HILLIER EXPERINCE – TOMAS WHITMAN HILLIER
BEST VALUE – “The great art of the draft is Michael Gallup in the 13th round, to feel that pain of other league mates, I know I exist” – Tom’s Ribs …… The Dallas Cowboys used a 3rd round pick on Michael Gallup in hopes of replacing some of the production of Dez Bryant and Jason Witten. Gallup should have a clear path to a starting role immediately on a team that is seriously lacking in wide receivers with 263 targets now available. (Honorable mentions –Tarik Cohen at 8.10)
WORST VALUE – Jay Ajayi in the 4th round needs to be shut down just as quickly as Byram Pizza. In his 7 games with the Eagles, Jay Ajayi only hit 15 carries once, never had a 100 yard rushing game, and did not score a rushing touchdown. Not to mention that Doug Pederson has admitted he likes the committee approach at running back. Yes, I get it – he will be a free agent next year, however, with his chronic knee injury history and apparently poor locker-room status, I want nothing to do with Ajayi. Sorry Tomass!
A GOOD THING – STEVEN HERZOG
BEST VALUE – First off, as I was typing in Steven’s team name (A Good Thing), it felt way more appropriate to type in “An Alien Thing.” Even though our league has experienced some weird Zog moments throughout the years, what’s really weird is Corey Davis falling to the 7th (!!!) round. We started to see the Davis breakout late last year when he had a 9 target 91- yard game in week 15, and a 63- yard 2 TD performance in the playoffs against NE. With both Marcus Mariota and Corey Davis each finally having a healthy offseason together, expect a good thing 😉 between the two. (Honorable Mention – Andrew Luck)
WORST VALUE – Selecting Carlos Hyde in the 8th round is just like Steven’s ex’s – just gross. The Cleveland Browns recently selected Nick Chubb with the first pick of the second round and resigned Duke Johnson to a huge extension. I see a situation similar to Latavius Murray signing in MIN last year where Dalvin cook usurped the lead role before a season-ending injury.
BURRITOS – XAVIER DE LA PIEDRA
BEST VALUE– Thinking about getting Jack Doyle in the 19th round gives me that drunk Xavi Asian Glow. A Pro-Bowler last year, Jack Doyle had the 4th highest target-percentage at the tight end position and finished as a TE1. I understand that Eric Ebron was just signed, however, from 2012-2016 Luck targeted the tight end position on 21.5% of his passes. The Colts offense has historically supported two tight ends (Dwayne Allen / Colby Fleener) and I see that continuing. A 19th round pick on Doyle carries little risk with TE1 upside. (Honorable Mention – No one because you drafted Joe Flacco)
WORST VALUE – Selecting Lesean Mccoy at 3.02 may be just as bad as you selecting Mark Krystinak as your Big. Lesean Mccoy’s June dynasty ADP was 5.09, far below where Xavi selected the aging Mccoy. In 2017 the Bills ranked 27th in run blocking and just lost starting center Eric Wood to retirement and starting left guard Cordy Glenn by trade. The offensive line changes and the age of Mccoy make me hesitant to project success.
Up Next – Ertz, Prestige WorldWide, Desk, Akissripped, and saving the best for last… Hopeless ROMOntic.
